“Shuai Chang: Ling Tuan, do you think it’s possible…?
Ling Tuan: What? (My heart is racing; the handsome guy is asking me if I want to tell the truth.)
Shuai Chang forced a smile: It’s nothing; I think I’m just being hysterical.
That’s why I feel like two people from different timelines could meet again.
Ling Tuan secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
After blow-drying their hair, the two lay side by side on the bed. Mu Chengguang turned his body to wrap his arms around Shuai Chang’s arm and softly said, “Mu Songtao and Mu Baichun are biological brothers with the same parents, unlike me. I’m actually a bastard.
“My mom was supported by my dad, and after just two years, she gave birth to me. I didn’t live with the Mu family when I was little; I was with my mom in another city. Later, when my dad’s wife got sick and died, my mom thought she could take advantage of the situation, so she drove me to Xuancheng to find my dad. However, we got into a car accident on the way, and I was protected under her. …” Mu Chengguang choked up as he spoke, “I was only five years old at that time; all I remember is a lot of blood… My mom cut ties with her parents for being a mistress, so no one looked after me. My dad could only bring me back to the Mu family. His wife had given him two excellent sons, and he didn’t really need me.
“Mu Songtao and Mu Baichun never showed their dislike toward me. They merely led me to break my dad’s antique vases and tear up his prized paintings. My dad never had much affection for me; I was always screwing things up, and he got lazy about managing me. In school, I wasn’t smart, and I did poorly; even the housekeeper would secretly mock me, doubting whether I was really a Mu family child because Mu Baichun and his brother had always been good students.
“Now I understand; if they talked about me behind my back, I certainly wouldn’t hear them, so it shows they were doing it on purpose, bullying me because I was young and unmonitored. On my eighteenth birthday, I drank too much and fell asleep behind the sofa. When I woke up, I heard Mu Baichun talking with the housekeepers, praising them for their good work over the years, and then he handed out a lot of money. I was impulsive at that moment, and in a fit of anger, I pushed Mu Baichun to the ground and beat him up before running to the house my dad bought for my mom. It’s the same place we’re living in now.
“Mu Baichun probably feared I would tell my dad about what he did, so he didn’t mention that I hit him. After that, you know what happened; you became my teacher at school, and I fell in love with you at first sight.”
Shuai Chang wiped the tear marks from his face and left a light kiss on his forehead: “I couldn’t participate in your past, but I will protect you in the future. As you said, you still have me.”
“Mm!” Mu Chengguang nodded, feeling unreasonably embarrassed.
###
In November, Mu Chengguang’s months of hard work paid off; their department sealed a major deal that brought millions in benefits to the company. When Mu Feng learned about this, he specially called to commend him and granted Mu Chengguang the approval to report to the headquarters next year.
Mu Chengguang’s birthday also falls in November, so Shuai Chang went to the mall a few days in advance to choose a birthday gift for him.
He remembered that Mu Chengguang had a pierce in his right ear, so he thought of selecting a pair of men’s ear studs for him. Mu Chengguang was not only a beauty lover but also quite narcissistic; he would definitely like beautiful accessories.
The salesperson took out a row of diamond ear studs for him to choose from. Shuai Chang picked one black and one white. Just as he prepared to check out, someone beside him suddenly spoke, “Add this gentleman’s bill to mine.”
The salesperson stopped and looked at Shuai Chang inquiringly. Turning around, Shuai Chang saw that it was Mu Baichun, Mu Chengguang’s second brother.
Mu Baichun smiled like a spring breeze, but his action of paying was very much that of a wealthy person.
Shuai Chang recalled what Mu Chengguang had said two months ago and couldn’t help but squint his eyes, cold light flashing.
Mu Baichun wouldn’t approach him for no reason, especially since he was a friend of Mu Chengguang.
“Mr. Mu, this isn’t quite right; I can pay for myself.” Shuai Chang declined Mu Baichun calmly, signaling the salesperson to charge his card.
The salesclerk didn’t move. Mu Baichun smiled and said, “You are Chengguang’s friend, so you’re my friend too; it’s only right for your second brother to pay for you. This mall is managed by the Mu family, so don’t stand on ceremony with me.”
No wonder the salesperson looked so troubled; it turned out the boss’s son was right in front of her.
Shuai Chang took back his bank card and put it away, revealing a slight smile, making his brow and eyes even more handsome and charming.
Mu Baichun’s eyes lit up, and his smile deepened, “If Nanyu doesn’t want this, then let’s not be indebted to each other and just have dinner on me.”
Shuai Chang wanted to find out Mu Baichun’s intentions, so he nodded, “The amount you spent is enough for me to treat you to dinner ten times. I’ve heard the restaurant upstairs is quite good; would you like to join me?”
While having dinner, Shuai Chang received numerous compliments from Mu Baichun, and after the meal, they exchanged contact information. As Shuai Chang got into his car, he glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Mu Baichun staring at him with a somewhat reluctant expression, making him shudder involuntarily.
The Mu family is truly bizarre, except for Mu Chengguang, of course.
While others see beauties in lovers, he saw a well-behaved son in Mu Chengguang; no matter what kind of person Mu Chengguang was, he always saw the good in him.
After work that evening, Mu Chengguang came home, and Shuai Chang directly handed him the ear studs.
“So beautiful! What’s the occasion today? Mr. Nan even gave me a gift.” Mu Chengguang held the ear studs up in front of the mirror.
“I picked them out, but it was Mu Baichun who paid.”
Mu Chengguang stiffened, “What’s going on?”
Shuai Chang recounted what happened today, and Mu Chengguang clenched his fists in anger, “Good, Mu Baichun, how dare he try to woo me away! Does he think the title of Mu Shaoye is just for show?!”
“He even added me on WeChat.” Shuai Chang showed his phone to Mu Chengguang.
Mu Chengguang clicked on Mu Baichun’s profile picture, noticing that it was different from the WeChat number he had added. This profile picture was obviously inappropriate, showing Mu Baichun holding a rose with a bright smile, dressed casually, and looking no older than twenty-five.
“Cunning boy! He’s clearly older than my teacher Nan but pretends to be young! Hmph ╯^╰!” Mu Chengguang puffed up like an irritable little hedgehog, all his quills standing on end, prepared to face the enemy’s attack.
Shuai Chang pinched his pouting little face, “This is my secondary WeChat; there aren’t many people on it. I don’t want to chat with him, so this WeChat account is for you. Let’s take revenge however we want. Is that alright?”
